Meet our sweet guest Bodie – A story of resilience you’ll love.

Updated: Jun 24

Bodie is our sweet, goofy, and lovable pup—now 2 years and 4 months old. His journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been one filled with resilience, love, and a little help from some wonderful people along the way.

When Bodie was about four months old, we enrolled him in a local doggy daycare. At first, he seemed to enjoy it. But on the Friday of his very first week, everything changed. When I arrived to pick him up, the staff casually mentioned that he had started limping just before I got there. That night, our normally energetic and curious puppy wasn’t himself. Instead of running around and exploring as usual, he went straight to his crate and didn’t want to move. He wouldn’t eat, and he wasn’t interested in a walk—two of his favorite things. I knew something was wrong.

We rushed him to the emergency vet, where an X-ray revealed a heartbreaking injury: Bodie’s left paw was broken, likely from being stepped on at daycare. He had to undergo surgery and spent the next eight weeks in a cast. When the cast finally came off, his leg was thin, weak, and unfamiliar to him. Slowly but surely, we helped him regain strength with short walks and playtime in a small backyard pool.

But something had changed. Bodie had grown used to not running and playing, and his physical activity slowed down significantly. His appetite, however, didn’t. As a result, Bodie began to gain weight. A lot of it. At his heaviest, he tipped the scales at 120 pounds. We tried a prescription diet, but it only maintained his weight—nothing really helped reverse the gain.

Then, one day, while driving through Escondido, we saw a sign that said, “TailWag Resort.” My husband pointed it out: “A resort… for dogs?” Intrigued, we pulled over and looked it up. It wasn’t far, so we decided to check it out. Even without an appointment, we were warmly greeted by Issac, who kindly gave us a tour of the facility. We were instantly impressed—TailWag truly looked like a place where Bodie could thrive. We signed him up on the spot.

Bodie started attending TailWag on December 4, 2024, and we haven’t looked back since. Today, he’s a whole new dog. He’s lost 13 pounds and counting, and he’s become far more active and joyful. He runs, he swims, he jumps, and he even hops into the car on his own—something he couldn’t do before because his back legs couldn’t support his weight. He’s back to enjoying treats (in moderation!), and every weigh-in at the vet is now a small celebration.

Thanks to TailWag, we’ve gotten our happy, healthy Bodie back. He truly is living his best life, and we couldn’t be more grateful to the amazing staff who have played such a big role in his transformation. Thank you for helping Bodie find his joy again—you are forever a part of his story and our family💗 Corin, Bodies' mom (also the winner of our
